William H. Timmerman, 79, of Nathalie, Virginia and formerly of Dolgeville, New York, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
He was born on May 26, 1945 in San Diego, California and was the son of the late, Lloyd and Inez (Hutt) Timmerman. Bill was educated at Dolgeville Central School.
On November 14, 1965, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War Era as an active-duty corpsman. He was deployed on the USS Forrestal and survived the USS Forrestal Disaster on July 29, 1967. Bill lost his shipmate and friend, Alan Metz from Stratford, New York, along with 133 other sailors that day. After serving his country with active duty, he was honorably discharged on October 27, 1967, where he continued to serve in the United States Navy Reserves until 1983 when he retired.
After his military career, Bill was a police officer in Little Falls and Herkimer, NY and then moved to Vermont and worked as a police officer in Winooski and Milton.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, hunting, fishing, woodworking and photography.
Bill is survived by his long-time partner, Carol Riesel of Nathalie, VA; children, Kristin Timmerman-Stewardson and her husband, Keith of New Hartford, NY, Carrie Timmerman-Kane and her husband, Michael of Little Falls, NY, Ryan Timmerman, Melissa Langevin-Denecker and her husband, Ryan, Dan Langevin and his wife, Bethany and George C. Lavallee II and his wife, Erica all of Vermont; grandchildren, Valerie Stewardson, Brady Stewardson, Charles Stewardson, Noah Timmerman, Emma Timmerman, Bailey Allard, Chance Denecker, Kennedy Denecker, Marshall Langevin, Daniel Langevin, Taylor Lewis, Joseph Lewis and Michael Lavallee; a great-granddaughter, Sabella Timmerman; a sister, Betty Jane Timmerman and her husband, Joseph Tolliver of Saratoga, NY; cousins, Terry Chadwick Winton, Susan Chadwick, Michael Chadwick all of VT, Gerald Fish of Liverpool, NY and Wallace Fish of Tupper Lake, NY; and extended family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Deborah Timmerman, son Michael Langevin and a grandson, Chad Timmerman on February 19, 2016.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Dolgeville Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his parents. The United States Navy Honor Guard will accord their funeral honors at the grave site. All are welcome to attend.
