William "Bill" D. Zacek, 75, of the town of Salisbury, New York, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 13, 2021 at his home after a brief battle with Covid-19.
Bill was on August 11, 1946 in Rochester, New York and was the only son of William and Olga (Mamrosch) Zacek. The family of three relocated to Salisbury when Bill was three years old, where they built a home they would share together. Bill attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1964. He then went on to attend college at the State University of New York at Delhi and lastly, Norte Dame in Indiana where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
He later came to own and operate “Wm. D. Zacek Construction” in the Albany area, doing what he loved the most. Eventually Bill moved back to his roots, and began operating Dolgeville Farm and Family. He thereafter accepted a position as supervisor at Hopson Hills Golf Course in Salisbury, where he truly found pleasure in helping to build a place the community could enjoy for years to come. His most recent career of nearly a decade was working for the DOT, supervising bridge construction, something he felt right at home with and enjoyed very much right up until November of this year.
Bill had the mind and heart of an engineer, and could design and build anything he had in mind. He was an “old-school” man, believing in working hard for what you wanted, and taking good care of what you had. He truly thrived on hard work and tackling the challenges that came with it. He so very much enjoyed time spent on the family farm, making hay in the summertime and always giving the best care to his beloved animals. When you spent time with Bill, you could count on hearing his witty sense of humor and great laugh, seeing his big smile, and getting to know his even bigger heart. He was a good friend and neighbor, and will be sorely missed by those who knew him best.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved parents. He is survived by his cousin and close friend, Michael Mamrosch of Wallingford, CT, his dear Aunt Martha “Merle” Mamrosch of Salisbury, NY, many other beloved cousins, and special friends, Jay & Kate Horth of Salisbury, NY.
All services will be private. There will be a private burial at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Salisbury in the spring where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
Arrangements are with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf St., Dolgeville, NY 13329.
