Walter D. Schrell Obituary

Walter D. Schrell, 78, of Dolgeville, Town of Salisbury, New York, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York.

He was born on April 16, 1942 in Fort Plain, New York and was the son of the late, Arthur and Lillian (Race) Schrell. Walter attended Fort Plain Central Schools.

On April 16, 2020, Walter was united in marriage to the former Donna Clavette in Salisbury, New York after a devoted 30 year union together.

Walter was formerly employed as a life long truck driver, working for various trucking companies in the area. His last employment was with Richard Obreza Trucking, in Mohawk, New York, where he enjoyed his career hauling milk from various farms to the plant. He worked for Obreza's for 14 years until his retirement.

Walter was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. Walter's most precious time was spent in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Boucher of Dolgeville, New York; his children, Terry Lenker and her husband, Greg of Johnson City, TN, Howard Schrell of Florida, Walter D. Schrell, Jr. of Missouri, Tina Polak and her husband, Michael of Schuyler, NY, and Kim Lawyer and her husband, James of Fort Plain, NY; step-children, Donald H. Darling of Salisbury, NY and Vicki Hilts and her husband, Richard of Salisbury, NY; nine grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; four step-grandsons; eight step great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Schrell and his wife Peggy of Fort Plain, NY; sisters and brothers in law, Paul and Elaine Clavette, Larry and Patty Clavette, Dawn and Jeff Lamphere, Diana Crossman, and Connie Clavette; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter was predeceased by his sisters, Iona Smith, Janet Louman, brothers, Bradley Schrell and Rodney Schrell Sr.; brother in laws, Ed Smith, Herbert Louman, Bernard Crossman and Donald Clavette; and a nephew, Rodney Schrell, Jr.

A spring graveside service for Walter will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Fort Plain Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. The family is being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, (315) 429-7123.
