Veronica L. Rockwell, 93, of Pleasant Lake, Town of Stratford, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, December 22, 2023, in the comfort of her home, with the love and support of her family by her side.
She was born on April 5, 1930, in Highland Park, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late, William and Veronica (Kerekes) Burlew. Veronica was educated at Highland Park High School and then Stratford Central School where she graduated with the Class of 1949. She also attended Utica School of Beauty Culture where she obtained her licensure to practice beauty.
On June 5, 1948, Veronica was united in marriage to William C. Rockwell, Sr. in Little Falls, New York. The couple shared a loving union of 38 years when Mr. Rockwell passed away on June 7, 1987.
Veronica was a loving homemaker and a self-employed hairdresser where she owned a beauty shop in her home in Stratford, New York for ten years before moving to Stamford, New York when her husband's job relocated him to that area.
She was a parishioner of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls, New York for many years. She was also a member of the Stratford Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Home Demonstration, and the Stratford Seniors-Kitchen Band. In her younger days, Veronica enjoyed crafts including floral arranging, camping, and being outdoors. She truly enjoyed her family time spent at her camp home, taking pontoon boat rides with her loving family and friends. Veronica will be dearly missed.
Veronica is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Wainwright Dineen and Brian Dineen who cared for Veronica for many years and were able to care for her and keep her home until her final days; loving grandchildren, Nicole M. Wainwright of Ilion, NY, Melissa A. Rockwell of Eastanollee, GA, William (Todd) Rockwell and his wife, Christine of Ilion, NY and Jaclyn R. Massaro and her husband, Michael of Herkimer, NY; great-grandchildren, Lillian G. Arduini of Stratford, NY, Matthew Noel LaJuett of Stratford, NY, Christopher M. Labadia of Oppenheim, NY, Myrisa C. Freeman of Mohawk, NY, Austin Lyon of Gloversville, NY and Alex Riesel of Utica, NY; special great-great grandchildren, Cayde, Kahlan, Nirvana, Dante, Radio, Isabella, Oliver, Jace and Olivia.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and a beloved son, Willam C. Rockwell, Jr. and her life companion, Leo Barnes, Sr.
The family will hold a memorial service on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 10 a.m. Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls, New York with Father Streven A. Scarcia and a graveside service at Stratford Cemetery in Stratford, New York following where she will be laid to rest with her husband. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at the family home, 10 W. Shore Rd., Stratford, New York.
