Theodosia “Daisy” Castle, 85, of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 9, 2023 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in St. Johnsville, New York with her loving family by her side.
She was born on November 12, 1937 in Oppenheim, New York and was the daughter of the late, Steve and Anastasia (Potomac) Zelezniak. Daisy was educated at local schools and received a bachelor's degree in education.
On October 21, 1967, Daisy was united in marriage to Herman J. Castle in Cohoes, New York. The couple shared a loving marriage of 55 years when Herman passed away on June 25, 2022, at the age of 77.
Daisy was formerly employed as a teacher at Schenectady Public Schools in Schenectady, New York until her retirement after many years.
After their retirement, Herman and Daisy came home to their family farm in Oppenheim where they established their current home and tree farm called Castle Christmas Trees.
Daisy enjoyed her animals, especially her dogs and cats. She truly loved her home on the Christmas tree farm. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.
She is survived by her grandsons, Brandon Hulten and Kian Schaffer, both of Oppenheim, NY; brother, Walter Zelezniak and his wife, Margo of Huston, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve Gardiner and his wife, Sue of FL, Ellen Bellit and her husband, Renato of Mariaville, NY, Margaret Castle of Delanson, NY, and Christine Gardiner of NY; close friends who were family to Daisy,
Ray and Lisa Hulten, Charlie and Susie Sammons and Chad Claus, all of Oppenheim, NY, in whom helped care for Herman and Daisy throughout the years; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Daisy was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Michael Castle and Philip Gardiner.
In keeping with family wishes, there will be no immediate service. The family is being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York.
