Stephen J. Serow Obituary

Stephen J. Serow, 45, of Spruce Lake, New York (Town of Salisbury), passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at his home.

He was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1980 in Little Falls, New York and is the son of Stephen Serow and Lorraine (Sohns) Serow. He furthered his studies at Herkimer County Community College and earned a construction management certificate was well as receiving a modern welding certificate in 2007.

Steve loved the water especially the ocean. He was incredibly passionate about his time serving in the U.S. Coast Guard joining in 2001 and served on the Marcus Hanna in Maine, where he gained some special friends that share a camaraderie some will never experience.

Steve was a caring, loyal and loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.  In his younger years growing up in Dolgeville, New York, Steve was always a role model and mentor for his younger brother, Josh, keeping him out of trouble. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his labs, Lucky and Max. Steve loved Dolgeville Football and during his school years, was a very successful quarterback and running back. He had a very special group of coaches and mentors that he kept in contact with for years, as well as many friends including his childhood close friend, Jason Costanza.

He is survived by his parents; father, Steve Serow of Dolgeville, NY and mother, Lorraine Serow of Oppenheim, NY; his only sibling; brother, Joshua Serow and his wife, Brittany of Dolgeville, NY; nieces and nephew, Keira Serow of Little Falls, NY, Garrett Serow of Little Falls, NY and Avaley Serow of Dolgeville, NY; aunts and uncles, Karen McGowan of Little Falls, NY, Danny and Patti Sohns of Marcy, NY and Jerry and Joanne Sohns of SC; several cousins, and close friends.

Steve was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frances and Leona (Salek) Serow; maternal grandparents, William and Catherine (Taffy) Sohns; and two uncles, John Serow and David Sohns.
