Shirley J. Mosher, 93, of Herkimer, New York and formerly of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday night, October 6, 2022 at Valley Health Service in Herkimer, New York.
She was born on November 5, 1928 and was the daughter of the late, Thorwald and Grace (Hollister) Cagwin. Shirley was educated at Newville rural schools and Little Falls High School where she graduated at the age of 15 with the Class of 1943.
On August 10, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Edwin “Moe” K. Mosher at Newville Union Church in Newville, New York. The couple shared 62 years together when Edwin passed away on February 13, 2007.
Shirley spent her younger years as a loving homemaker caring for her husband and children. At one time, she was employed by Daniel Green and then Shirley was employed by Dolgeville Central School as bus driver. She retired in 1988 after 25 years of service. She then started her career in Home Interiors sales from 1988-2000.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul’s Universalist Church in Little Falls, NY and was a member of the Manheim Historical Society, 4-H, Violet Festival Committee, Penguins Snowmobile Club, Newville Grange, Universalist Women’s Club, Mohawk Homestead, Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Honorary Life Member of the Salisbury Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, Red Hat Society and was an honored Queen of the Dolgeville Violet Festival in 2004.
Shirley was the back bone of her family and was passionate about her community and civic endeavors. She was a role model of strength, compassion and a friend to everyone she met. Mom-You are so loved and will be so missed.
She is survived by her loving children, Beverly Milazzo of Queensbury, NY, Claudia Youker of Horseheads, NY, Jeffrey Mosher and his wife, Elizabeth of Little Falls, NY and Gregg Mosher and his wife, Gisela of Salisbury, NY; 11 grandchildren, Bethany Milazzo and Katje Thompson of Cohoes, NY, Robert Van Matre of CA, , Darrin and Esther Youker of East Berlin, PA, Amy and Shea Boshart of Rome, NY, Wendy Mosher McKay and John McKay of Fort Collins, CO, Carrie Mosher and Rob Marchant of Arlington, MA, Philip Mosher of the Netherlands, Europe, Abigail Mosher and Jonathan Perrone of Little Falls, Brett and Loretta Mosher of Dolgeville, NY, Donny and Renee Pirone of Little Falls, NY and Shelly Pirone of Dolgeville, NY; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Daureen Teall and her husband, David of Newville, NY; a special niece, Gail Moynihan of Herkimer, NY; many nieces and nephews; special extended family, Michelle Buffis, Harvey Youker, Jr., Lorraine Deveny, Donna Novak, Karen Francisco, and Pauline Williams and their families.
Shirley was predeceased by a son-in-law, Harvey H. Youker, Sr. and her siblings, Elwyn Cagwin, Glenn Cagwin, Dorothy Heinrich, Allen Cagwin and Joanne Cagwin.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Universalist Church, 565 Albany Street, Little Falls, New York with Rev. Jeff Frank. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at 11:00 a.m., also at the church. A private committal service will be held at Dolgeville Cemetery where Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband, Moe. The family will receive relatives and friends for a Celebration of Life reception at the Rock Valley Brewery, 56 West Mill Street, Little Falls, New York 13365 following the memorial and committal service. All are welcome to attend. The family is being cared for by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
