Ruth M. Garrison, 88, of the Town of Danube, Little Falls, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, August 29, 2025 in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.
She was born on October 2, 1936 on Whippoorwill Road in Marcy, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late, Raymond and Naomi (Spangenberg) Henry. Ruth was educated at a one room school house and then attended West Nicholson High School.
At one time, Ruth was married to Leslie Akerley in 1954, where they started their family with their children, John and Pauline. She then married George Garrison on December 9, 1968. The couple shared a union of nearly 41 years when he passed away on October 1, 2009.
Ruth was formerly employed as an associate at Dandee Donuts in Little Falls, New York where she served many customers through her 20 years until their closing. She also worked at Mountainside Markets, with Ron Goldstein, P & C shopping, R.D.’s Redemption Center and lastly working as a school crossing guard for Little Falls.
She was a parishioner of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Falls, New York and a former member of the Lion’s Club. Ruth enjoyed collecting antique spoons, going for rides to Cherry Valley and traveling to see her grandchildren. Her last trip was a few months ago where she traveled across the United States to California to visit family. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Ruth will be missed dearly by her family.
She is survived by her children, John Akerley and his wife, Antonia of Salisbury, NY, Pauline Guarnieri of Little Falls, NY, and Roger Garrison of Little Falls, NY; step-daughter, Ginette Ostrander and her husband, Paul of Johnstown, NY; grandchildren, Daniel Akerley and his wife, Crystal of Dolgeville, NY, Allison Raimondi and her husband, Thomas of NC and Jesse White and his wife, Leah of CA; great-grandchildren, Clara White, Leandro White, Emily Akerley, Johnny Akerley, Cassidy Raimondi, Thomas Raimondi, Paige White, Seth White, Logan Nystrand, Rosa White, Chase White and Jason Fox; great-great grandchildren, Colton Williams, Eli Nystrand, Willow Nystrand and Easton Fox; step-grandchildren, Jamey, Billy, Robert and Tachana and their children and grandchildren; a step-brother, Gerald Dawson and his wife, Ruby of Scotland, Europe; numerous nieces, nephews; several in-laws; and two close friends, Fran Jasewicz and Diane Giarrusso.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, George Garrison on October 1, 2009 and a grandson, Samuel White on February 26, 2015.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 East Gansevoort Street, Little Falls, New York 13365 with Father Joe Famulare, pastor officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, Little Falls, New York.
