Ronald L. Smith Obituary

Ronald L. Smith, 79, of the Town of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York.

He was born on June 19, 1946 in Cooperstown, New York and was the son of the late, Richard and Dorothy (Roseboom) Smith. Ron was educated in Cherry Valley and Cooperstown School Districts.

On October 20, 2001, Ron was united in marriage to Deborah Ann Pearl in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dolgeville, New York. The couple shared a union of 24 years together this past fall.

In his youth, Ron worked at dairy farms in the Cooperstown, New York area, several factories in the valley and lastly worked at LaSalle’s Laboratories in Little Falls, New York until his retirement.

He was a faithful and dedicated publisher of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dolgeville, New York, where he appreciated his time spent with his brothers and sisters. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed dancing, singing, oldies songs, cooking and helping care for his home. He also liked watching football and was a Washington Red Skins fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah A. Smith at home; his children, Kelly Brown of VA, Jeff Smith, Ron Butler and his wife, Melinda of NC and Jessica Seaman of Dolgeville, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Smith and his companion, Jill of Cedarville, NY; a sister-in-law, Lois Smith of Toddsville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Ron was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Grace Snyder; and two brothers, Eugene Smith and Dick Smith and his wife, Pat.

Ron’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, December 27, 2025  2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Dolgeville, 679 Brockett Road, Dolgeville, New York 13329. All are welcome to attend.
