Robert L. Schuyler, of the Town of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully on his 86th birthday, Monday, December 26, 2022 at Foltsbrook Center in Herkimer, New York with his family by his side.
He was born on December 26, 1936 on his family’s farm in the Town of Oppenheim, New York and was the son of the late, George and Inez (Goodell) Schuyler. Robert was educated at Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1956.
On February 28, 1961, Robert was united in marriage to Hannah M. Brownell in Little Falls, New York and they shared a union of nearly 60 years together, when she passed away on January 11, 2021.
Robert owned and operated Pride Hill Farm located in the Town of Oppenheim for his entire life. He ran the family farm with his father, George eventually buying it to run alongside his wife, Hannah. Together they raised their three daughters in a loving home. In 1987, the barn burned and Robert then went to work at Burrows Paper Mill in Little Falls, New York for several years until his retirement.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Ingham’s Mills Baptist Church. Robert was also a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge 796, Free and Accepted Masons. Robert was an extremely hard worker but when he had down time, he truly enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved making them laugh.
He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For the ones he loved the most.
His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
And most of the time his worries
Went unspoken too.
He was always there … A firm foundation
Through all the storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold on to
In times of stress and strife.
A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad
One of our greatest blessings
The man that we called Dad.
