Richard W. Hohler, Jr., “Dick”, 75, of Cherry Valley, New York passed away peacefully, early Monday morning, May 15, 2023 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York surrounded by his family.

Dick was born January 31, 1948 in Cooperstown, New York and was a son of the late, Richard W. and Shirley P. (Plankenhorn) Hohler, Sr.  Dick attended Gloversville High School and graduated with the Class of 1967.

Shortly after graduation, Dick proudly joined the United States Marine Corps on August 30, 1967. Having serving in the Vietnam War, he earned the rank of Corporal and received the following medals, the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After nearly three years of service, Dick was honorably discharged on May 28, 1970.

After leaving the military, he went to work doing construction for several employers before establishing R&R Builders with his business partner, Bob Meiser in 1983. Dick and Bob ran their business together until Dick retired in 2017.

On July 27, 1996, Dick was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Erikson at their home in Pleasant Brook, New York. The couple shared 26 years of marriage together.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie at home; his loving daughter, Lisa Hohler her companion, Jerry Wells of Oneonta, NY; step-sons, Robert Gridley and his wife, Noelle Miller of Dolgeville, NY and Steven Gridley and his wife, Alison of Cherry Valley, NY; six cherished grandchildren, Emilee Jaquay and her husband, Braden of New Berlin, NY, Kelsey King and Kyle King of Burlington Flats, NY,  Jonathan Gridley, Oliver Gridley and Adalynn Gridley of Cherry Valley, NY; two step-grandchildren, Madison Plonka and Ethan Plonka of Dolgeville, NY; special sisters, Donna Cocurera and her husband, Robert of Baldwinsville, NY and Deborah Wyszomirski and her husband, Mac of Amsterdam, NY; sisters-and brother-in-law, Jeannette Rivenburgh and her husband, Niel of Watertown, NY, Sheryl Trafton of Cherry Valley, NY and Janet Erikson of Cobleskill;  several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Melissa Hammond; and very dear friends, Michael and Bev Culligan.

He was predeceased by his parents, a beloved brother, Daniel Hohler; father and mother-in-law, John and Mildred Erikson; and brothers-in-law, Craig Erikson and Gary Trafton.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 56 Alden Street, Cherry Valley, New York 13320 with Pastor Ron Fralick officiating. Honor guard members of the United States Marine Corp will accord their funeral honors for Dick at the conclusion of the church service.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Immediately following the memorial, the family will hold a reception at the church hall.

Following the reception, there will be a committal service at 1:30 p.m. at Slate Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. All are welcome to attend.
