Richard "Dick" L. Krick Obituary

Richard “Dick” L. Krick, 85, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 17, 2025 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York with his loving wife, daughters and family by his side, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.

He was born on December 6, 1939 in Ilion, New York and was the son of the late, Harold and Iva (Mowers) Krick. Dick was educated at Frankfort Central School and graduated with the Class of 1958.

On January 13, 1962, Dick was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Schmidt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort, New York. The couple shared a union of 63 years and raised their three daughters in a loving home.

In 1963, Dick and Dorothy moved to Dolgeville, New York when Dick took a position with the New York State Department of Transportation as a supervisor. He worked for the NYSDOT from 1957 to 1996 when he retired with 40 years of service to the state.

Dick was an active member of the Dolgeville community and volunteered his time for most of his life. He was a member of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department for over 27 years, Past President of the Spofford Hose Company #2, and the Dolgeville Volunteer Fireman’s Benevolent Association where he was President for 15 years. He was also a board member and volunteer with the Dolgeville Cemetery Association for many years, as well as a part-time officer with the Dolgeville Police Department for 8 years while working with the state.

He loved camping and Dick and Dorothy could be seen spending their summers enjoying the Thousand Islands, Speculator, and Lake George for many years. He also enjoyed going to his good friend, Bob Jorrey’s camp. Dick adventured with friends in the “R.O.M.E.O. Club”-Retired Old Men Eating Out, where Dick and friends would frequently local restaurants for lunch including the Buffalo Head, House of Pizza and other favorite spots. In younger years, he enjoyed watching his daughter, Lori’s sports activities in her high school days, as well as watching his grandsons play football and baseball.

Lovingly known as “Kricky” to many, Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Dick will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy L. Krick at home; his loving daughters, Karen Frederick and her husband, Mike of Dolgeville, New York; Lori Smith and her husband, Jim of Fairfield, NY; and Kathy Robinson and her husband, Chris of Columbus, GA; special grandchildren who affectionately called him Poppy, Kristyn Greene, Corinne Woods, Nicole Cudhea, Jared Frederick, Ryan Seeley, Aaron Seeley, Alyssa Valo and Caylie Valo; several step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Chet Pietrowski of Taberg, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friend, Nick Miller and his friends at George Lumber and Covered Bridge Convenience. He also leaves behind his best friend and pup, Cooper, who ate every meal with him and loved going for truck rides with Dick.

Dick was predeceased by his parents; twin brother, Raymond Krick; brother, Donald Krick; sisters, Muriel Reina and her husband, Frank and Doris Brown and her husband, Carlton; and beloved grandson, Kenny Valo.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. Immediately following the service, members of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department will offer a prayer service and family members will share memories of Dick. A private interment will be held at the Dolgeville Cemetery at a later date, where he will be laid to rest alongside his cherished grandson, Kenny Valo, whom Dick loved dearly.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department Banquet Hall immediately following his funeral service starting at approximately 2:45 p.m. All are welcome to join the family.

The Krick Family would like to thank Dr. Canary and the kind nurses for helping Dick with his cancer treatments for the last five years as well as their compassion and support.
