Pauline J. (Mowers) Knapp Obituary

Pauline J. (Mowers) Knapp, 91, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, January 3, 2025 in Rome, New York with her family by her side.

She was born on September 19, 1933 in Salisbury, New York and was the daughter of the late, Frank and Louisa (Cool) Mowers. Pauline was educated at Stratford Central School and graduated with the Class of 1951.

On May 2, 1953, Pauline was united in marriage to Archie Polivka in Salisbury, New York. Together they raised two children, Lynne and Brad in a loving home until his passing on November 3, 1973. She was later married to Thurman Knapp on May 12, 1990 in Cold Brook, New York until he passed away on January 10, 2010.

She was formerly employed by the Daniel Green Shoe Company, she worked as a seamstress in addition to working at Dorthy’s Fabrics and P&K Dress Factory and lastly employed with M & T Bank. Her greatest joy was being a loving homemaker for her family.

Pauline was of the universalist faith and was a member of the Salisbury Universalist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, bird watching, traveling and serving in her local church and community. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Pauline will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, a daughter, Lynne Lyon and her husband, Richard of Oppenheim, New York and a son, Brad Polivka and his wife, Joanne of Rome, New York; her grandchildren, Erik Avery and his wife, Antonia of Oppenheim, New York, Melaine (Polivka) and her husband, Evan Hinkel of Rome, New York, and Jacob Polivka of Rome, New York; great-grandchildren, Erika Avery of Oppenheim, New York and Matthew Hinkel of Rome, New York; a sister, Marcia Cigale of Flowery Branch, GA; Richard's son, Dillon and his companion, Stephanie of Dolgeville, New York and their three children, Abel, Macie and Tristyn; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pauline was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Louisa Mowers, two brothers, Dean Mowers and his wife, Betty, and Bob Mowers and his wife, Irene, and a brother-in-law, Edward (Bunk) Cigale, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, Cremations and Funerals. A memorial service will follow the calling hours at 12 p.m. (noon), also at the funeral home. A spring graveside service will take place at Salisbury Rural Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.

Pauline would like to thank the following people; Marcia Bowers-thank you for all the Friday dinners out and your friendship. Pat Cady-thank you for being my sister. Harold Lacek-thank you for your lifelong friendship. Jennifer and Jenessa-thank you for your kindness, I always felt safe in your care, and Grisel-thank you for understanding me, for the comfort you gave me and for being my GiGi.
