Nancy C. Nagle Obituary

Nancy C. Nagle, 80, of Hyrum, Utah and formerly of Dolgeville and Van Hornesville, New York, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at her home with her loving husband, Tom, by her side.

She was born on January 7, 1945 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Howard and Inez (Bailey) Hess. Nancy attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1964.

On May 23, 1970, Nancy was united in marriage to John W. Souder, Jr. in Altoona, PA, and raised their four children, John, Nicholas, Theresa and Jennifer in a loving home. After nearly 16 years of marriage, John passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 1986.

On July 31, 1993, Nancy was wed to Ronald A. Smith in Dolgeville, NY and resided in the Richfield Springs, NY area. They shared a devoted union of nearly 25 years when Ronald passed away on April 21, 2018.

Nancy was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Thomas F. Nagle and after their courtship, the couple was wed at St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville, New York on August 8, 2022. Nancy relocated to Hyrum, Utah where they shared their home together.

Throughout Nancy’s earlier years, she worked at Allegro Shoe Co. in Altoona, PA, Daniel Green Shoe Co., Pastor Secretary for St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville, NY, and substitute teacher at Owen D. Young School in Van Hornesville, NY, where she retired in 2015.

She was very involved with her community and volunteered at the Van Hornesville Food Pantry, Hunger Coalition of Herkimer County, Herkimer County Fair Association, Catholic Charities of Herkimer County, Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR) of Herkimer County, the Herkimer County Board of Elections, and was a devout Catholic and member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dolgeville, NY.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, crocheting, arts and crafts, and camping at Spruce Lake. She especially loved her time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren extended family and close friends. A devoted and cherished matriarch of her family, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Nagle of Hyrum, UT; her children and their spouses, John and Stephanie Souder of Herkimer, NY, Nicholas and Elizabeth Souder of Albany, NY and Theresa and Pablo Robles of E. Stroudsburg, PA and Kathy Nagle of Hyrum, UT, Thomas Nagle, Jr. and his companion, Ryan Wall of Oden, UT and Timothy Smith and his companion, Tiffany Campionne of Richfield Springs, NY; grandchildren, Maria and Zachary Goodspeed, Julian DiBrango, Landon Culver, Victoria Robles, Sofia Robles, Jennifer Smith, Alex and Stephanie DePietro, and Charles and Rebecca Kenyon; great-grandchildren, Sophia Goodspeed, Jacob Goodspeed, Asher DePietro, Hunter DePietro, Brady DePietro, Konnor Smith and Wyatt Kenyon; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law within the Souder, Smith and Nagle families.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Souder; husband, John W. Souder, Jr.; husband, Ronald Smith; a brother, Howard Hess, II and her parents.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning, May 10, 2025 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 31 N. Helmer Ave., Dolgeville, New York 13329 with Fr. Brian K. Slezak, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph’s Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
