Melanie G. Daukontas Obituary

Melanie G. Daukontas, 68, of Dolgeville, New York passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, New York with her loving daughter by her side.  In the days before, her children and family gathered close, surrounding her with the love and care that defined their family.

She was born on February 1, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York and was the daughter of the late, George and Joan (Dramen) Stoehrer. Melanie devoted her life to her family and home.  She took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming place for all who entered and her dynamic personality and generous heart touched everyone who knew her.

Melanie cherished her family in every form.  She shared many meaningful years of marriage with Anthony Daukontas, with whom she built lasting memories and a foundation of friendship that endured beyond their marriage.  Their continued mutual respect and the family they nurtured together remained a source of joy for her.

In recent years, she found companionship and happiness with her partner, Ron Alwine, whose steadfast care and friendship brought her comfort and laughter.

Melanie enjoyed shopping, thrifting and garage sale finds.  She was always up for an adventure and quick to offer a ride to anyone who needed one.  She found joy in adding special touches to make her home beautiful.  Most importantly, Melanie loved caring for her family.  She prided herself on providing a safe, loving home where all were accepted and loved and was often heard saying, “What happens at Nana’s, stays at Nana’s.”  She actively helped in raising all of her grandchildren.  She was a true friend to her grown children and their friends.  She made connections and built friendships everywhere and these friendships lasted time and distance.

A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she is survived by her children: Michael McAfee, Damon Daukontas (Theresa), and Meegan Goodman (Pete); her grandchildren: Shawn McAfee, Briana McAfee, Mariya Daukontas, Rocco Daukontas, Mackenzie Daukontas, Allison Daukontas and Wyatt Goodman; her great-grandchildren: Weston, Wesley, Jayden, Alana, Sophia and Serenity; and her brothers: Bobby (Lori) and Alan Stoehrer.  Melanie was a loving stepmother to Anthony “T” Daukontas for many years.  She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and countless special friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jason B. Daukontas on August 21, 2019 and her cherished parents, George and Joan Stoehrer.

Melanie’s kindness, spirited presence and the love she poured into her family will be cherished forever.
