Margaret M. Meehan-Johnson Obituary

Margaret M. Meehan-Johnson, 69, of Dolgeville, New York (Town of Oppenheim), passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday morning, January 2, 2026, with her loving husband, Ed, and family by her side.

She was born on December 12, 1956 in the City of Orange, New Jersey and was the daughter of the late, Thomas and Marcia (Tinker) Meehan. Margaret was educated at Barringer High School where she graduated. She furthered her studies at the Newark School of Fine Arts, Essex County Community College and Bloomfield College where she earned an associate’s degree.

On December 29, 1990, Margaret was united in marriage to Edward R. Johnson in the Town of Manheim, New York. The couple later renewed their vows at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They shared a loving marriage of 35 years this past week.

Margaret was formerly employed with Fulton County Department of Social Services as a caseworker for several years. She then transferred positions to General Herkimer Home as a site interpreter and then last to Fort Klock as the site manager, two position which she adored due to her love of history.

In addition to history, Margaret enjoyed gardening and camping. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Dolgeville, New York where she attended church with her husband and family as a devout Catholic.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward R. Johnson at home; children, Joseph Johnson of FL and Gregory and Brenda Johnson of Oppenheim, NY; cherished grandchildren, Kaleb Johnson of Oppenheim, NY, Kacey Johnson and Tori Johnson, both of Brookfield, NY; a brother, Charles P. Meehan of Herkimer, NY; nephews; and several in-laws.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Thomas Tay Meehan (4) and a sister, Michelle M. Meehan in 2021.

A spring memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Dolgeville, New York at a time and date to be announced.
