Leo & Ida Barnes Obituary

 

Leo R. Barnes, 65, and Ida J. Barnes, 64, beloved husband and wife, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York, only fourteen hours apart from each other after brief illnesses. They are now together forever, as they would have wanted.

Leo was born on June 4, 1956 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of the late, Leo and Marlene (Youker) Barnes. He was educated at Dolgeville Central School. Ida was born on April 11, 1957 in Herkimer, New York and was the daughter of the late, John and Joan (Newman) Rickard. She was educated at West Canada Central School.

On June 25, 1976, Leo and Ida were wed in Volusia, Florida. The couple shared 45 blessed years of marriage together, where they raised their children in a loving home.

Leo was currently employed by Beech-Nut Foods in the Town of Florida, New York as a supervisor and was planning on retiring in January of 2022 after 40 years of service to the company. Ida was a long-time employee of Daniel Green Shoe until their closure. She then owned her own cleaning business called Mrs. Clean of Dolgeville and Making Home Great Again where she served many clients in the surrounding areas for the last 15 years.

Leo enjoyed hunting, shopping with his wife, NASCAR, all sports, and was an avid Patriots fan. Ida enjoyed shopping with her husband, NASCAR, Dopp’s, dancing and enjoying time with family and friends, having a few and having a good time. Both Leo and Ida, immensely loved spending time with their family especially their grandchildren. Leo and Ida were two kind and loving people who will be dearly missed by their family, friends and community.

Leo and Ida are survived by their beloved children, Alicia Barnes of Albany, NY, Adam Barnes and his wife, Erica of Dolgeville, NY and Christian Cool and his wife, Mackenzie of TX; cherished grandchildren, Mariya Daukontas, Ashton Kluge, Adalynn Johnson, Quinn Johnson, Ava Barnes, Michael Mulvana, John Lupoli IV, Brittany Woolridge, Cade Cool and Emmerson Cool; Leo’s siblings, Cindy Markwardt of Dolgeville, NY and Rick Barnes and his wife, Mary of Salisbury, NY; Ida’s siblings, Carole Danforth of Oppenheim, NY, Diane Lockwood of Newport, NY, Joan Kane and her husband, Ron of Little Falls, NY, John Rickard and his wife, Cathy of Norway, NY, Randy Rickard and his wife, Sue of Salisbury, NY, and Daniel Rickard and his wife, April of Salisbury, NY; Leo and Ida’s nieces and nephews, Terry Lee Lamphere, Mike Lamphere, Eric Markwardt, Jason Barnes, Mike Young, Kayla Gardner, Mary Audycki, Melinda Sherwood, Melissa Girarusso, Melanie Perkins, Heidi McManus, Kevin Kane, James Rickard, John Rickard, Jr., Jason Rickard, Amy Gariepy, Jeremy Knapp, Danielle Comstock, Brandon Rickard, Kimberly Poff, Wayne Huckabone, Daniel Huckabone and their families; many great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins, extended family, friends; a close friend of Leo’s, Michael Mamrosch; and close friends of Ida’s, Melody and Michael Smith, a Godson, Joshua Smith, and Rich and Stacey Ortlieb; and a bonus son, Mike Adams.

Leo and Ida were predeceased by both of their parents, Ida’s sister, Michelle Rickard, and their nephews, Todd Gerhart and Brayton Rickard.

Combined calling hours for Leo and Ida will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 12 p.m. noon also at the funeral home, with family pastor and friend, Pastor Mark Hediger officiating. A summer burial will be held at Dibble Tuttle Cemetery where Leo and Ida will be laid to rest together. Following the funeral services on Thursday, the family will hold a Celebration of Life reception at the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club, Peck Road, Dolgeville, New York. All are welcome to attend.
