Kathyrn "Katie" (Stowell) Miles Obituary

Kathryn “Katie” (Stowell) Miles, 75, of Lassellsville, Town of Ephratah, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025 at Little Fall Hospital in Little Falls, New York with her loving family by her side.

She was born on March 11, 1950 in Little Falls, New York and she was the daughter of the late, Ernest and Marion (Bailey) Stowell. Katie attended Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and graduated with the Class of 1967. She furthered her studies at the State University of New York at Oswego and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education.

On August 5, 1978, Katie was united in marriage to Donald E. Miles at the Oppenheim United Methodist Church. The couple shared a loving union of 43 years when Mr. Miles passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2021.

Katie spent the majority of her life as a high school Spanish teacher. Her career started at Eldred High School where she taught for 14 years and then transferred to Dolgeville Central School where she was the Spanish teacher from 1985 to 2005, retiring after 20 years for a total of 34 years of service to the public school system.

She was a member of the Oppenheim United Methodist Church and was also found her faith at the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church. Katie was a member of the Sprite Club and Mohawk Valley Alpiner Hiking Club. She enjoyed going out, listening to music, hiking, kayaking, camping and loved any outdoor activities. A quiet and loving woman, Katie will be dearly missed as a sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend.

She is survived by her beloved siblings, Wayne and Bonnie Stowell of Oppenheim, NY and Janet and Donald Cool of Oppenheim, NY; loving nieces and nephews, Trell Stowell and her companion, Dawn Keller of Morgantown, WV, Terra Stowell and her companion, Jacqueline Melley of Charlton, NY, Ty Stowell and his wife, Brooke of Oppenheim, NY; and Melissa Cool-Horan and her companion, Crystal Stalnaker of Lassellsville, NY; great-nieces and great-nephews, Eli Keller-Stowell and Harper Keller-Stowell of Morgantown, WV, Parker Stowell and his wife, Lesly of Ephratah, NY, Reed Stowell-Melley of Charlton, NY, Quinn Stowell-Melley of Charlton, NY, Leizel Pierce of Oppenheim, NY and Bailey Cool-Horan of Lassellsville, NY; many cousins and extended family members of the Stowell and Miles families.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with Pastor Marty Burillo officiating. A graveside burial will be held at Rural Park Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Don.
