John "Frank" F. Connor Obituary

John “Frank” F. Connor, age 90, of Herkimer, New York, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 18th 2023, in the comfort of his own home, with his loving family by his side.

He was born on June 11th, 1932 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of Raymond and Genevieve (Murphy) Connor. John was the second oldest of seven children growing up in the beautiful countryside of Dolgeville, New York.

He attended Dolgeville High School and graduated with the Class of 1949, and then enlisted in the United States Airforce in November of 1950.  Serving during the Korean War, his main duty was being an office machine repair man, until his honorable discharge in 1954. After he left the military, he built a career in the Office Machinery Sales and Service field. He eventually started his own business as a typewriter repairman, named Mohawk Valley Typewriter.

On March 28th 1964, he was married to Ruth White of Herkimer, New York, in which they had three children together. After his children were older, he attended Herkimer County Community College, where he received his Associates Degree in Finance Accounting in May of 1988.

John enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting and watching his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities. In his later years, he loved to spend time with his family, reminiscing about the past and looking at old photos.

He is survived by his three beloved daughters, Eileen Connor, Debbie (Mark) Sommer, and Dorothy Connor; grandchildren, Justin (Trish) Moore, Brandon (Ashley) Sommer, Katie Moore, Cory (Jessica) Manley, Gerry (Lynsie) Wiegand, Jordan Sommer, Alex Freund (Lexy Martin), Scott Moore, Erica Freund (Ben Hobaica), Meghan Moore (Mike Land), Ronnie (Sara) Gage; great-grandchildren, Frank and Salvatore Moore, Liam and Owen Sommer, Grayson Barton, Nella Wiegand, and Nora and Torben Manley; his siblings, William Connor, Mary Sczcebak, Rosie Schuyler, Margie Collado, and Theresa Fazio; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and lastly, his beloved Smith Street “family.”

John was predeceased by both of his parents, his brother, Joseph Connor, his grandson, Connor Gage, and his son-in-law, Norman Freund.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Bill McCue, Hospice and Elaine Knoblauch.
