Johanna M. Sweet Obituary

Johanna M. Sweet, 68, of Lassellsville, New York (Town of Ephratah), passed away unexpectedly on New Years Day, January 1, 2025 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, New York after suffering an apparent cardiac event at home. She had the love and support of her family at the time of her passing.

She was born on August 28, 1956 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Eugene and Catherine (Livingston) Clemons. Johanna attended Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and graduated with the Class of 1974. She then furthered her education by attending SUNY Oneonta graduating with her bachelor’s degree in 1978 and her master’s degree in 1981.

Johanna was formerly employed as a high school history teacher at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School for 36 years where she retired in June of 2015.

On August 19, 1978, Johanna was united in marriage to Donald C. Sweet at the St. Johnsville Methodist Church. They shared a union of 46 years where they raised their three children in a loving home.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a former 4-H leader, and a member of the Association of Musical Parents (AMP). In her spare time, Johanna loved reading, crocheting, knitting, sewing and gardening. Her most precious moments were spending time with her children and caring for her grandchildren whom she adored. She was loved by her many students and co-workers through her years at O.E.C.S. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Johanna is survived by her beloved husband, Donald C. Sweet at home; her loving children, Crystal Keck and her husband, Dan of Lassellsville, NY, Mallory Wolf and her husband, Justin of Burlington Flats, NY, and Kyle Sweet and his wife, Sun Ja of Hagaman, NY; her cherished grandchildren, Sawyer, Parker, Leland, Weston, Benjamin and a granddaughter due in May of 2025; her brother, Dean Clemons and his wife, Kelly of Oppenheim, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Virginia and William Kollar, Lloyd and Janet Sweet, Carole Sweet and Christopher Sweet; special best friends, Sue Vavra and her partner, Jack of Johnstown, NY and Patty McClure of Rochester, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Catherine Clemons, a sister, Eugenia Clemons, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Sweet and a brother-in-law, Robert Sweet, Sr.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, Cremations and Funerals. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

The family would like to thank the R.G.L. Volunteer Fire Department, Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department, St. Johnsville Ambulance Services and the Fulton County Sheriffs and Dispatch for their professionalism, compassion and persistence in helping the family during their difficult time.
