George J. D'Amico, Jr. Obituary

George J. D’Amico, Jr., 88, of Dolgeville, New York passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, April 13, 2025 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York.

He was born on October 26, 1936 in New York City, New York and was the son of the late, George and Sylinda (Viscusie) D’Amico. George was educated at Dolgeville Central School. Shortly after his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After his four years of as an active-duty Marine, George enlisted in the United States Air Force. For nearly 22 years, George served his country until he retired in 1975 from the Air Force.

On March 21, 1964, George was united in marriage to Nina Mae Sherrill in Carson City, Nevada. They settled down in Duluth, Minnesota after the military and shared a blessed union of 42 years when Nina passed away on May 12, 2006.

George was formerly employed with Diamond Tool Company and lastly at St. Mary’s Health Clinic, both in Duluth, MN where he retired as a custodian.

While residing back in New York, George volunteered his time and was a lifetime member of the Dolgeville Area Volunteer Ambulance until their closure. He was also a daily customer of Motor’s Inn where he would enjoy coffee and breakfast with friends. George also enjoyed breakfasts and coffee at Brix Pizzeria as well. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his step daughter, Mary McDonald, of VA; several step-grandchildren; a cousin, Joe Viscusie and his wife, Nadine of Dolgeville, New York who helped care for George in his later years; and several cousins.

A private graveside service will be held St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dolgeville, New York with his cousin, Joe Viscusie officiating, where George and Nina will be laid to rest together. Members of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force will accord George his funeral honors. George and his family are being cared for by locally owned and family operated, Roberts Funeral Home in conjuction with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
