Gary Daniel Shibley Jr., 64, formerly of Salisbury, Dolgeville, Little Falls, and Richfield Springs. New York area and residing in Odessa, Florida, was peacefully called upon by the Lord to join His Majetic Kingdom early Tuesday morning, January 31, 2024, at Heather Mills Healthcare Center, a Gulfside Hospice Care facility in New Port Richey, Florida, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born August 8, 1959, to Gary Daniel Shibley Sr. and Donna Jean (Johnson) Shibley, formerly of Salisbury, New York. Gary graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in June 1979. He graduated in 1991 from what was known as Herkimer County Community College with an Associate of Science degree in Pre- Engineering Science. Then, he went on and received from what is known formerly as The State University of New York Institute of Technology of Utica Rome a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in May of 1993.
In August 1976, Gary Jr. joined the United States Marine Corp and did his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. He was later stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, until he received an Honorable Discharge in August 1977.
He was joined in marriage to Janice M. Sanborn at First Christian Church in Clearwater, Florida on March 17, 2002, where they enjoyed 10 years of marriage until her passing on May 18, 2012.
Gary worked in the computer industry for many large corporations since he received his degree. He worked for IBM in Burlington, Vermont, Jabil Circuits in St. Petersburg, Florida, Pinellas County Governments in Clearwater, Florida and his last job was at Smart Meter, LLC in Tampa, Florida.
Gary loved working with and repairing computers, he enjoyed fishing, playing golf, bowling, SCUBA diving, taking cruises, dining out, playing with his cat, Fluffy, along with Debra's dog, Toby and spending time with his fiancée, Debra. He loved comedy and being a jokester, even telling those close to him that Ron White was his brother. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him and loved him.
Gary Jr. is survived by his fiancée, Debra Lowe, of Odessa, FL, "Dylan" Elizabeth Jean Bennett and partner, Jesse Fogg, of Utica, NY, Amanda Dawn Sheets, of Boonsboro, MD, Lynn Marie Shibley and partner, Zachary Sullivan Sr., of Ilion, NY, Gary Daniel Shibley III and partner, Krista "Kay" Bruce, of Ilion, NY, and special mention of Debra's daughter, Samantha Rivera and husband Jeremiah, of Fort Liberty, NC; grandchildren; Katrina Benett, of Utica, NY, Zachary Jr. and Johnathen Sullivan, of Ilion, NY, Noah Shibley, of Gloversville, NY, and Raylyn Shibley, of Sauquoit, NY; two sisters, Karen Rumrill and her husband, Robert Sr., of Lassellsville, NY, and Jacqueline Bailey and her husband, Mark of Hartwick, NY; several aunts and uncles; many nieces and nephews, and their children and many cousins.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Donna ad Gary, his wife, Janice, and his sister, Ruth Ann Laskowski, and her husband, Donald, and his grandparents, Laura and Howard Shibley and Helen and Edwin Johnson.
In keeping with Gary Jr.’s wishes, he will be cremated and then returned home for a burial in Salisbury Rural Cemetery at at date and time to be announced in the spring. The family is being cared for by locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, Cremations and Funerals.
The family would like to thank Gulfside Hospice Care for their excellent care and treatment and the staff of doctors, nurses and caregivers at Saint Joseph's Hospital North in Lutz, FL.
