Evelyn W. Jaikin, 79, of Dolgeville, New York passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, January 15, 2025 at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse, New York after complications from a recent surgery while she battled cancer.
She was born on October 5, 1945 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Heman and Marguerite (Ives) Sponable. Evelyn was educated at Stratford Central School.
On July 7, 1962, Evelyn was united in marriage to Francis “Frank” P. Jaikin at the Assembly of God Church in Salisbury Center, New York. The couple shared a loving union of nearly 54 years, when Frank passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2016.
Evelyn and Frank lived in Dolgeville for many years until they built their home in Salisbury where they resided the majority of their lives. While in Dolgeville, Evelyn worked with Millie Busch at her nursing home on State Street in Dolgeville for several years. For a few years, Evelyn and Frank ran a restaurant where the modern day, Motor’s In was. She then went on to work at Daniel Green Shoe, Lexington Center, Fast Trac as a manager, home healthcare aide, transferred back to Lexington where she finished out her years to retirement. In retirement, she worked as a lunch monitor at Dolgeville Central School until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.
When Frank passed away, Evelyn sold her home in Salisbury and bought a home back in Dolgeville where she has resided for the last year. She transformed and remodeled her new home and was very proud of all of her accomplishments with the transition.
Evelyn was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the S&S Volunteer Ambulance and a member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club and back in the day, was on a bowling league. She loved camping and sitting by the fire. She was famous for making her crocheted blankets as well as watching 48 Hours and NCIS shows.
Evelyn was truly a family woman and could rarely be seen without her loving daughter, Vicky and her granddaughter, Ashley as they were inseparable. She had an adventurous spirit, was always game for anything and was always out on some type of crazy adventures with her family. Her favorite time was spent in the company of those she loved most, her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law and friend, Evelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Jaquay of Salisbury, NY; grandchildren, Michael Jaquay and his companion, Nancy Brennan of Berlin, MD, Rick Jaquay and his wife, Joan of Dolgeville, NY and Ashley Jaquay of Salisbury, NY; great-grandchildren, Halie Jaquay of PA, Tyler Jaquay of Little Falls, NY, Ryann Jaquay of Berline, MD, Briella Jaquay, Olivia Jaquay and Lucas Jaquay, all of Dolgeville, NY and Lillyana Jaquay of Salisbury, NY; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Jaikin Family; and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother, Herman (Babe) Sponable, a son-in-law, Michael W. Jaquay, a nephew, Steven Sponable, a neice, Sheryl (Sponable) Bernier, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club, 697 Peckville Rd., Dolgeville, New York 13329 where all will share in honoring Evelyn’s life.
