Eleanor B. Keil, 94, of Dolgeville, New York passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 24, 2023 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York with her loving family by her side.
She was born on December 6, 1928 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Fred and Mary (Miller) Baum. Eleanor attended Little Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1947.
On March 28, 1948, Eleanor was united in marriage to Walter G. Keil at the Universalist Church in Dolgeville, New York. The couple shared a loving union of 45 years when Mr. Keil passed away on March 25, 1993.
Eleanor was previously employed by Adirondack Bat for 15+ years and then went on to work for Tumble Forms for an additional 10 years, retiring in 1993.
In her spare time, Eleanor enjoyed camping, especially at Pine Lake when the kids and grandkids were growing up. She also liked bird watching, cooking where she was always searching for new recipes to make, traveling, playing Bingo, gardening, reading, sometimes reading two or three books simultaneously, playing Pogo and playing cards, especially pinochle. Her most precious time was spent in the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanor will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Rodney Keil of Ava, NY; Barbara Griffin and her husband, Robert of Dolgeville, NY and Joyce Keil of Norwich, CT; a grandson, Alan Griffin and his wife, Karmen of Syracuse, NY; a grandson-in-law, Greg Moon of Pfafftown, NC; great-grandchildren, Michaela Moon of Boone, NC and Joshua Moon and Madison Moon of Pfafftown, NC; and special friends, Helen Maksymitz and Kim Barnes.
Eleanor was predeceased by her cherished granddaughter, Cathleen (Griffin) Moon on September 6, 2022, a brother John Baum and his wife, Dorothy, and a sister, Rose Kaufman and her husband, George.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at 5 p.m. also at the funeral home with Pastor Joseph Famulare officiating. A burial service will be held in the spring at Salisbury Rural Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Walter, at a date and time to be announced. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral at the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department. Anyone wishing to bring a dish, please contact Kim Barnes for assistance.
