Edward M. Stack, Sr., 87, of Salisbury, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 5, 2025 at Folts Brook Center in Herkimer, New York where he resided for the last two years.

He was born on January 9, 1938 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of the late, Edward and Mildred (Sleezer) Stack. Ed attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1956. He lived and worked at the family farm where he started his own family.

Ed was formerly married to Betty Lou Cool and had six children together. He later on married Cynthia A. Wood and shared a marriage of over 40 years when she passed away on September 8, 2019.

Ed was a career construction worker and was employed by various construction companies between New York and New Jersey over his 32-year career. He was last employed with Barrett Paving in Syracuse, New York as a heavy equipment operator when he retired in 2014. Ed was known as one of the best dozer finishers in the business.

In high school, Ed was active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) where he won New York State first place for cattle judging. He was also a former active member of the Salisbury Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club and the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Known for being a hard worker, after his retirement, he and his wife, Cindy moved to Florida and resided there from 1999 until her passing in 2019 where he then relocated back to Dolgeville to be closer to his children and grandchildren. A husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, affectionately known as Scrubby by his family and friends, Ed will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children, Edward Stack, Jr. and Debbie of Newport, NY, Karen Ferguson and John of Salisbury, NY, Mary Skuza and Dave of Dolgeville, NY, Tina Gorishek and Tag of Fairfield, NY, Joe Stack and Linda of Salisbury, NY and Melissa Hull and Jamie of Salisbury, NY; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Jean Stack of Spruce Lake, NY; and extended family.

Ed was predeceased by his brother, William Stack and one grandson.

In keeping with Ed’s wishes, cremation will take place and he will be scattered with his wife, Cindy. There are no formal services. The family is being cared for by locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home in conjunction with Roberts Funeral Home, 3 East Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
