Edward J. Rzeszot Obituary

Edward J. Rzeszot, 78, of Dolgeville, New York passed away on Saturday evening, March 20, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, with the love, support and prayers of his family by his side.

He was born on September 14, 1942 in Watertown, New York and was the son of the late, Junius Mount and John and Sophie (Jezewski) Rzeszot. He attended Vernon-Verona Sherrill Central School and graduated with the Class of 1961.

On October 1, 1963, Ed enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country and earned the following awards, Marksman (Rifle), Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. On August 11, 1966, he was honorably discharged.

Ed was united in marriage to Carol A. Hopson on August 17, 1967 in Hamilton, New York. They shared a union of nearly 54 years where they raised their three children in a loving home.

After many years in the workforce, Ed enrolled at the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science of Binghamton University, State University of New York where he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Technology, graduating in May of 1989.

Ed was formerly employed with Bendix Corporation, Sperry UNIVAC, Savin Corporation, IBM, Burrows Paper Mill and lastly with the New York State Eric Canal System where he retired in May of 2020 after many years of service.

Ed was an active community member within the Village of Dolgeville. He was a parishioner of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, past Scout Master for Dolgeville Boy Scout Troop 18, a 40 plus year member with the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge #796, Free and Accepted Masons, Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter #308, Order of the Eastern Star, the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department, the Stratford-Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance where he was an EMS Driver.

His interests included canoeing, hiking, and camping as well as a life-long, long distance runner. Ed's most precious time was spent in the company of his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and community.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol A. Rzeszot at home; three loving children, Randi E. Rzeszot and his wife, Mi Suk of Richmond, VA, Rachelle A. Rzeszot of Vestal, NY and Ryan L. Rzeszot and his wife, Christina of Binghamton, NY; six cherished grandchildren, Christopher R. Rzeszot of Richmond, VA, Grace S. Rzeszot of Richmond, VA, Nataleigh F. Alig of Vestal, NY, Sydnee M. Alig of Vestal, NY, Alexander Rzeszot of Binghamton, NY and Piper Rzeszot of Binghampton, NY; a sister, Cathy Rzeszot and her husband, Doug Prosser of Rome, NY; two brothers, Chester Rzeszot and his wife, Dorathy Wickham of Canastota, NY, and Charles Mount and his wife, Pat of Indiana; brother and sister in law, Donald and Nancy Hopson of Dolgeville, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, 21 N. Helmer Ave., Dolgeville, New York 13329 with Pastor Anthony Bradseth officiating. The Dolgeville Masonic Lodge #796, Free and Accepted Masons will offer their prayer service and the Sisters of  Auskerada Maques Rock City Chapter #308, Order of the Eastern Star will offer their prayer service. The memorial service will conclude with funeral honors accorded by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. All are welcome to attend and we ask that you wear a mask and practice social distancing procedures. An inurnment committal will take place the Vestal Hills Memorial Park in Vestal, New York on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11 a.m.
