Edward H. Ortlieb Obituary

Edward H. Ortlieb, 80, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning, August 4, 2019 with his beloved wife and daughters by his side, in the comfort of his home.

Edward is survived  by his beloved wife, Sandra B. Ortlieb at home; two daughters, Lyne Roglieri and her husband, John of Binghamton, NY and Tammy Broat and her husband, Jeffrey of Dolgeville, NY; four grandchildren, Saverio Roglieri, Nina Roglieri, Kara Kapler and her companion, Harold Burgos, and Jade Taylor Broat; three great-grandchildren, Ruby Kibicho, Jayden Burgos and Adrian Burgos; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold Lacek of Dolgeville, NY, Monica Ortlieb of Newport, NY, Gordon and Edythe Darling of Salisbury Center, NY; two loving Chihuahua companions, Dixie and Daphne; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born on January 24, 1939 in Dolgeville, New York and was the son of the late, Edward and Alice (Dunham) Ortlieb.  Edward began his education at Stratford Central School and then transferred to Dolgeville Central School, where he graduated with the Class of 1957.  On June 21, 1958, Edward was united in marriage to Sandra B. Darling at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church.  They shared a loving marriage of 61 years together and  raised their three children.

Edward worked  at various factories in the Mohawk Valley including Univac, Snyders, Beechnut, and Adirondack Bat Company.  Edward then gained an opportunity to further his education at Fulton-Montgomery Community College where he earned an Associate's Degree in Culinary Art at the age of 60.  He implemented his degree as a chef at the Mohawk Station, the Stone Jug and lastly, Pleasant Lake Inn.  After 10 years in the restaurant industry, Edward retired in 2009.

During his younger years, Edward would perform with his band where he played guitar and sang. He had a beautiful voice.  Edward was a faithful member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church and was a steadfast servant of his church, singing with the choir.  He enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and camping on the Powley Road and the Adirondack Mountains.  He was an avid gardener who loved all kinds of flowers. Edward was a past member of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Department and the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club.

He adored all his children, grand children, and great grand children and nothing gave him greater joy then to be hanging out with his kids. He was so proud of each and everyone of them. He will be dearly missed by his family, church family, and friends.

He is predeceased by his son, Donald E. Ortlieb, grandsons, Darrin John Edward Looman and Jeffrey James Broat, his step-father, Stephen Kubica, his sister, Annabelle Lacek, a brother, Richard Ortlieb, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce & Ruth Darling and Gary & Barbara Darling. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, 21 North Helmer Avenue, Dolgeville, New York 13329.  A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at 12 p.m. Noon with Pastor Anthony Bradseth, officiating.  Procession will follow to Rural Park Cemetery, where Edward will be laid to rest with his grandsons.
