Dora L. Leavitt, 66, of Little Falls, New York, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025 in the comfort of her own home, with her children by her side.
She was born on May 14, 1959 in Geneva, Illinois and was the daughter of Fred and Florence (Bowser) Niceley.
She married John Leavitt on June 29, 1975 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The couple shared 24 years of marriage together when he passed away on May 29, 1998. After his passing, she had found
companionship with David Cool, Sr., whom she married in 2011.
In her younger years, Dora worked at Daniel Greens Shoe Factory in Dolgeville, New York. She spent the majority of her life as a dedicated and compassionate caregiver to those she supported. She most recently was employed at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center as a Certified Nurse’s Aide.
Dora enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Her most favorite times were spent with the company of her large and loving family who will miss her dearly.
Dora is survived by her four beloved daughters and son, Amy Leavitt and her companion, Shane Brownell of Starkville, NY, Penny Seymour and her husband Thomas of Ilion, NY, Judy Gorinshek and her husband, William of Salisbury, NY, Katie Leavitt of Little Falls, John Leavitt and his wife, Lindsey of Saint Johnsville, NY; many special grandchildren and cherished great-grandchildren; a sister Lillie Niceley and her companion, Patricia Peterson of Lake Lure, NC; a brother Dennis Niceley and his wife Mary of Kaneville, IL; and nieces and nephews.
Dora was predeceased by father and mother, Fred and Florence Niceley; two brothers, Billy Niceley and Gary Niceley, an infant daughter, Sally-Ann Leavitt; and her husbands, John Leavitt and David Cool, Sr.
In keeping with Dora’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Dolgeville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, John.
