Donald P. Danforth Obituary

Donald Philip Danforth, known to many as Don, passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 63, after a brief illness at Maine Health Hospital in Biddeford, Maine.

He was born on May 20, 1962, in Little Falls, New York and was the son of Philip Danforth and Doris (McGinnis) Stowell. He attended Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School.

Donald was a strong and stubborn man, someone who rarely let others see his struggles. He often reassured those around him, saying he was “okay” and that no one should worry about him. Beneath that tough exterior, however, was a man with a truly kind and generous heart. He loved his family deeply and never missed an opportunity to tell them how much he loved and missed them.

For nearly 20 years, Donald made his home in Maine, where he sought a fresh start and a change of scenery. Though he built a life there, he always carried his family close to his heart, missing them just as much as they missed him. During his time in Maine, he also formed many meaningful friendships and connections that became an important part of his life.

Donald was a highly skilled and dedicated craftsman who worked as a foreman building beautiful homes, some along the ocean. He took great pride not only in his woodworking talents, but in leading projects and ensuring every detail was done right. Meticulous and a bit of a perfectionist, Donald found true purpose in his work and was especially proud of the role he played as a leader. His creativity and commitment were reflected in every project he helped bring to life.

He enjoyed music, conversation, and time spent with others, and he had a way of connecting with people through his easygoing and social nature. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Donald is survived by his son, Joshua P. Danforth; his beloved granddaughters, Rebecca and Rose; his sister, Diane Stowell; his niece, Mindy Cover and her husband, Chad Cover and their sons, Cole Harper and Coby Cover; his nephew, Scott Stowell and his wife, Diane K. Stowell and their sons, Kyle, Tyler, and Gavin Stowell; and his close friend, Lisa Sax, who stood by his side.

He was predeceased by his mother, Doris (McGinnis) Stowell, on August 22, 1997; his father, Philip Danforth, on October 31, 1980; and his brother, Stephen, at birth.

In accordance with his wishes, no calling hours or formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

The family is being cared for locally by Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, Cremations and Funerals.
