Deborah “Debbie” A. Caponera, 68, of St. Johnsville, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in St. Johnsville, New York, after having the love and support of her family with her.
She was born on May 1, 1956 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, John and Grace (Augar) Leavitt. Debbie was educated at Dolgeville Central School.
On August 7, 1976, Debbie was united in marriage to Albert J. Caponera in Dolgeville, New York. They shared a devoted union of 48 years, raising their four children in a loving home.
Debbie worked for many years at Daniel Green Shoe Company in Dolgeville, New York until their closure in the late, 1990’s. She then went to work at Folts Home in Herkimer, New York where she was a cook in the dietary department until her retirement. After her retirement, Debbie worked for Brittany’s Diner in Ephratah, New York for several years.
Debbie was of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. In younger years, she loved spending time at the family camp on Keyser Lake. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband, Albert J. Caponera at home; a son, Jason Caponera and his companion, Brianne Hongo of Oppenheim, NY; three daughters, Angela Caponera and her companion, Mathew Strong of Syracuse, NY; Sally Caponera of St. Johnsville, NY and Danielle Caponera of St. Johnsville, NY; four granddaughters, Shantal Carroll and her companion, Devin Bullock, Kelsey Lovett and her companion, Derek Peschieri, Nataley Caponera, and Leella Kretser; two great-grandsons, Carson Jaquay and Dawson Caponera; two sisters, Sandra Leavitt and her companion, Scott Brandt of Salisbury, NY and Sue Cornman of St. Johnsville, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Linda Caponera of CA, Thomas Caponera and his wife, Melissa of St. Johnsville, NY and David Caponera and his wife, Mamie of MA; an aunt, Virginia (Augar) Gardner of FL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Bernard Leavitt, David Cool and Johnny Leavitt; and a sister, Bonnie Johnson.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the H.C. Smith Benefit Club, 538 Crum Creek Road, St. Johnsville, New York 13452. All are welcome to attend to share a meal, memories and love for Debbie and her family.
