Dale E. Van Volkenburg, 86 of Cape Coral, Florida and formerly of Dolgeville, New York, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at his home after a long-fought illness.
Dale was born on March 13, 1938 in Little Falls, New York. He graduated from Dolgeville High School. He was also a member of the Dolgeville Volunteer Fire Dept. where he also served as the Fire Chief for a period of time.
Dale was a Carpenter by trade for many years, working on many projects in New York State.
After moving to the S.W. Florida area in 1990, he chose to work in the health care filed as a Maintenance Director/Assistant. He absolutely loved to work in that field.
It was Dale's dream to move to Florida. He loved the weather, and being the avid fisherman that he was, he couldn't wait for the opportunity to start fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. He would also enjoy fishing in the many canals that were accessible behind his home, by boat in Cape Coral.
Dale also loved to work in the front and back yard with his wife, planting. He might also be building a gazebo to make his property look nice. Let it be said that Dale was able to live out that dream and loved every minute of it.
After that was completed, he would enjoy a cold drink, and listening to country music while floating around in the pool with his wife. All while thinking to himself, "What a life!"
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Faye Van Volkenburg of Cape Coral, FL; one son, David Van Volkenburg and his wife, Kathy of Herkimer, NY; two step-children: Ryan Boulden of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Amanda Boulden of Fort Myers, Fl; one grandson, Leigh Van Volkenburg and wife, Rashelle ; and two great grandchildren, also of Upstate New York; several extended family members.
Dale also leaves behind many friends from up north, and many co-workers/friends that he had the pleasure of working with in Florida.
A graveside service will be held at Dolgeville Cemetery in Dolgeville, New York in the future. Local arrangements are with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York.
