Brian F. Pettengill, 63, of the town of Salisbury, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York after a short illness. He was supported and comforted by the love of his sisters by his side.
He was born on February 15, 1962 in Little Falls, New York and was the son of Frederick and Evelyn (Ellis) Pettengill. Brian was educated at Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the Class of 1980.
Brian was formerly employed with Tumble Forms, Inc. in Dolgeville, New York as a Foreman in the spray foam department. He retired in 2012 after 30 years of dedicated service to the company.
Brian was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a member of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed fishing especially deep-sea fishing trips with his friends, bowling, playing corn hole, and golfing. Brian especially took pride in gardening, making maple syrup, fudge, sausage breads, cooking his famous BBQ ribs, and was always sharing the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He could be regularly seen enjoying coffee with his friends at Stewarts. Brian was also known for playing Santa Claus at Christmas time and loved to bring joy to children during the holiday’s magical time.
Affectionately known as “Dukie” or “Uncle Duke” to his nieces and nephews, he had a special bond with each one. He was always willing to help out anyone who asked or was in need at any time. A loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend, Brian will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Brian is survived by his sisters and their families, Dawn Allen and her husband, Kenneth Allen, Jr. of Salisbury, NY; Karen St. Louis and her husband, Ed of Deerfield, NY and Valerie Pettengill and her companion, Eric Burchell “Brother E” of Dolgeville, NY; nieces and nephews; Kenneth Allen, III (Amanda), Jena Haas (David), Olivia Dunham (Matthew), Keith Crane (Thalia), Joel Jakubowicz, Logan Jakubowicz, Evalynn St. Louis, Isaiah Walrath, Aydin Walrath and Jack Burchell; great-nieces and great-nephews, Josiah, Micah, Kenneth IV, Samual, Lydia, Jack, Leo and Parker; several extended family members.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Frederick Pettengill and Evelyn Pettengill.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329, Cremations and Funerals. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m., immediately following the calling hours, also at the funeral home with his brother-in-law, Kenneth R. Allen, Jr., officiating.
Brian will be laid to rest with his father on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Rural Park Cemetery in Inghams Mills, New York.
The family will host a Celebration of Life Reception following the burial at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone wishing to contribute to the Celebration of Life Reception, contact Amy Murphy at 315-868-3131 by text only to help organize, provide food or set up. All are welcome to attend.
