Barbara M. (Carlson) Grimmer Obituary

Barbara M. (Carlson) Grimmer, 87, of Dolgeville, New York passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, January 3, 2026 at Little Falls Hospital in Little Falls, New York. Barbara was fortunate enough to spend her final days with her devoted husband and caregiver, Jack, until the very end.

She was born on September 19, 1938 in Little Falls, New York and was educated at Dolgeville Central School where she graduated with the Class of 1956. In her youth, Barbara and her 6 siblings were raised on the family farm on Carlson Road.

On May 20, 1961, Barbara was united in marriage with John “Jack” A. Grimmer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dolgeville, New York. The couple shared 64 years together where they raised their only son, John, in a loving home.

Barbara was formerly employed with Dolgeville Central School as an elementary librarian for over 30 years until her retirement. In her retirement days, she returned to school to serve as a substitute librarian for the school.

She was a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church as well as the Auskerada Maques Rock City Chapter #204, Order of the Eastern Star in Dolgeville, New York. In her spare time, Barbara loved golfing and even earned a “Hole In One” at the Mohawk Valley Country Club on August 5, 2005.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend, Barbara’s wonderful sense of humor and vibrant personality will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John “Jack” A. Grimmer at home; a loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Vicky Grimmer of Epping, NH; special grandchildren, Abby Greene and her husband, Denver of Leicester, MA, Lainey Grimmer and her husband, Johaness Essl of Dover, MA and Cate Fournier and her husband, Robert of St. Albans, VT; cherished great-grandchildren, Shannon Jones, Charlotte Jones, Liam Pigeon and August Greene; sisters, Irene Tooly and Lillian Boyer, both of Dolgeville, NY; a sister-in-law, Jane Carlson of New Hartford, NY; a brother-in-law, Ed Wesley of Dolgeville, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was predeceased by her brothers, Carl Carlson and Gus Carlson and his wife, Helen; sisters, Carol Wesley and Vivian Atutis and her husband, Francis; brothers-in-law, Clark Tooly and Arthur Boyer; and brother-in law and sister in-law, David and Joann Wrights.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services. The family is being cared for by locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
