August "Bucky" Looman, Jr., 87, of the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and formerly of Oppenheim, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 21, 2020 with his loving children by his side at the nursing center.
He was born on January 15, 1933 in West Canada, New York and was the son of the late, August & Ruth (Burrows) Looman. August was educated West Canada Central School.
In March of 1957, August was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War Era. He served his country until his honorable discharges in June of 1957 to go back to work on the family farm in Fairfield, New York.
On September 1, 1956, August was united in marriage to the former, Virginia Walrath. They shared a blessed union of 61 years together until Mrs. Looman's passing on January 18, 2018.
August was formerly employed by Milltex of Dolgeville, New York, now known as Gering Tricot, as a laborer where he ran the separators. He worked for 46 years until his retirement. Prior to that, he was a farmer on his family farm in Newport, New York.
He was a volunteer fireman for the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department and the Fire Police for 20 years and coached Dolgeville Little league for several years. August enjoyed snowmobiling and working on small engines.
August is survived by his three loving children, Robert Looman and his wife, Brenda of Dolgeville, NY, Tammy Miles and her husband, Will of Lassellsville, NY, and Marsha Stanley and her fiance, Rick Pearl of Lasselsville, NY; his special grandchildren, Jason Looman and his fiance Katie Smith of Waterviet, NY, Joshua Looman and his wife, Sara of Ilion, NY, Kayla Miles-Moyer and her husband, Jordan of St. Johnsville, NY, Aaron Stanley and his housemate, Carrie Pashak of St. Johnsville, NY, Dustin Stanley and his wife, Samantha of St. Johnsville, NY and Tiffany Pearl of St. Johnsville, NY; his cherished great-grandchildren, Hailey, Zachary, Connor, Kaydan, Mason, Isabelle, Rori, Mackenzie, Alex, Jordan, Lindsey, and Carter; brothers and sisters in law, Jim and June Clark of Dolgeville, NY, sisters in law, Deborah Randall of Dolgeville, NY, and Esther Williams of Dolgeville, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his eleven brothers, Leroy Looman, Ralph Looman, Herbie Looman, Leo Looman, Mack Looman, Theodore Looman, Ernest Looman, Richard "Tom" Looman, John Looman, Wesley Looman, Kelly Looman; and an infant sister, Nora who passed at birth.
In keeping with family wishes, there will be no public calling hours for Mr. Looman. A private graveside service will be held at Dibble Tuttle Cemetery, Salisbury Center, New York. Arrangements are with Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
