Arthur "Sunny" V. Comstock Obituary

Arthur "Sunny" V. Comstock, Jr., 88, of Emmonsburg, New York in the Town of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 26, 2021 at Foltsbrook Center in Herkimer, New York where he had been a resident for the last two months.

He was born on September 20, 1932 in the Town of Oppenheim, New York and was the son of the late Arthur and Edith (Voorhees) Comstock. Arthur was educated at Stratford Central School.

On October 15, 1951, Arthur enlisted in the United States Air Force in Syracuse, New York. He served his country during the Korean War era as an AIC (P) with the 2274th FLDMAINTRON (CONAC). Arthur earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On October 14, 1955, he was honorably discharged at Wolters AFB in Mineral Wells, TX, after four years of service.

On April 5, 1954, Arthur was united in marriage to the former Marie Helen Surprise at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dolgeville, New York. The couple have shared union of nearly 67 years together where they raised their four children in a loving home.

Arthur was formerly employed by Remington Arms in Ilion, New York as a machinist. He retired in 1995 after many years of service.

In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and caring for his home and property. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially their large family reunions held each summer.  Arthur taught his children the value of hard work by bringing them to his construction jobs where they not only learned how to work hard, but to work with honesty and integrity. His most precious time was spent in the company of his wife and loved ones. He will surely be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie H. Comstock at home; his loving children, Ricky Comstock and his wife, Glenda of Vine Grove, KY, Rusty Comstock and his wife, Jan of West Suffield, CT, Randy Comstock and his wife, Denise of MO, and Rose Smith and her husband, Craig of Dolgeville, NY; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Sidney Comstock of the Town of Salisbury, NY, Larry Comstock and his companion, Ginger of Salisbury, NY; sister, Virginia Sherman and her husband, Wally of Gloversville, NY; sister in law, Shirley Lyon of the Masonic Home, Utica, NY; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and several cousins.
