Anton “Butch” G. Christensen, 85, of St. Johnsville, New York, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, November 10, 2025 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where he resided for the past year after and unfortunate hunting accident.
He was born on October 7, 1940 in St. Johnsville, New York and was the son of the late, Svend and Margaret (Hayes) Christensen. Butch was educated at St. Johnsville High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. Upon graduation, Butch enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served four years and was honorably discharged in 1962.
On October 10, 1962, Butch was united in marriage to Tressa Ann Harris in St. Johnsville, New York. The couple shared nearly 60 years of marriage together when Tressa passed away on August 26, 2022.
Butch was formerly employed with Pulver Roofing in Utica, New York as a union roofer and was a member in good standing with Roofers Local 195 for 34 years. He retired in 2002. In younger years, he was the owner and operator of Chris Contracting in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was also the co-owner of the Kyser House bar and General Kyser Antiques in the 1980’s. There are many tales of adventures had with his business endeavors.
He was a member of the H.C. Smith Benefit Club, the St. Johnsville American Legion, the Sprite Club and was of the Dutch Reformed faith.
Butch loved spending time at the family hunting camp in the Adirondack’s as well as wandering through the woods prior to the hunting accident. If he was not home, Butch could be found at Treasure Island, hunting camp or fishing with his faithful canine companion, Rosie. He spent many a hunting season in the Bitter Root Mountains of Idaho and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado chasing elk. He enjoyed good times with a wild crew and making unforgettable memories with family and friends and friends that became family.
In true Butch fashion, he passed on his second birthday, November 10th, the United States Marine Corp’s birthday. He is reunited with his wife and best friend, Ann. He will be missed by all who knew him especially his family.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Svend and Tish Christensen of St. Johnsville, NY and Anton and Christy Christensen of Oppenheim, NY; grandchildren, Corporal Maxwell Christensen, of the USMC of St. Johnsville, NY; Specialist Margaret Christensen of the US Army, Fort Polk, LA, Hannah Christensen of Cooperstown, NY and Jay Christensen of St. Johnsville, NY; siblings and in-laws, Patricia and Joe Falangetti of Pales Veris, CA, Sandre and Joe Holtslag of Greensboro, NC and Shawn and Sherry Christensen of St. Johnsville, NY; in-laws, Bob and Judy Mosher of Duluth, MN and Clark and Michelle Mosher of Gansevoort, NY; nieces and nephews, Trevor (Kayla) Christensen with whom he shared a special bond, Shaun (Kristin) Christensen, Lori (Kevin) Nelson, Cindy (Carl) Little, Shane Grey, Anthony (Brooke) Falangetti; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and extended family with the Christensen and Mosher Families.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 1 p.m. at the H. C. Smith Benefit Club, 538 Crum Creek Road, St. Johnsville, New York 13452.
