Grace Mary Katherine Barnes

Grace M. K. Barnes, 92, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Falls, New York.

She was born on June 27, 1926 in Little Falls, New York and was the daughter of the late, Edward and Grace (Grief) VanGorder.  Grace was educated at Dolgeville, New York and graduated with the Class of 1943.  She was of the Christian faith.

On September 22, 1945, Grace was united in marriage to David Wilson Barnes, Sr. at the Dolgeville Methodist Church parsonage.  The couple raised their seven children in a loving home and were married for over 50 years.  Mr. Barnes passed away on May 13, 1996.

Grace was a loving wife and mother and spent her years as a homemaker providing for her husband and children.  She enjoyed cooking, bowling, fishing, theater, music including Bob Seger and Elvis and crossword puzzles.  She always attended her children and grandchildren's sporting events and their activities.  Grace will be known for enjoying a cup of coffee on her porch and conversing with her family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved children, Patricia Barnes and her husband, Earl (Skip) of Lakeland, FL, David Barnes, Jr. and his companion Brenda Henson of Salisbury, NY, Linda Hawkins of Dolgeville, NY, Debra Davis and her companion Dennis Johnson of Dolgeville, NY, Robin Spanfelner and her husband, John of Salisbury, NY; and Shawn Barnes and his wife, Janet of Salisbury, NY; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews that she adored.

Grace was predeceased by her loving daughter, Carol Ann Johnson on December 6, 2012, a sister, Dorothy Gifford and her best friend, Mary Evans.

In keeping with Mrs. Barnes wishes, a memorial graveside services will be held on her birthday, June 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Curtis Corners Cemetery, Town of Salisbury, New York, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, David W. Barnes, Sr.  Arrangements are with Roberts Funeral Home, 3 East Faville, Avenue, Dolgeville, New York 13329.
