Biography
Frank S. Sammons, 87, of Oppenheim, New York, passed away unexpectedly, Friday morning, April 20, 2012 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York.
He was born on May 1, 1924, a son of the late, Simeon and Marguerite Sammons. He was educated in Oppenheim Schools. On October 31, 1948, Frank was united in marriage to Louise M. Kreiger at Crum Creek Church in Oppenheim, New York. The couple shared a union of 63 years together.
Frank was last employed as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Oppenheim. Prior to his work for the town, Frank spent several years managing the family’s dairy farm in Oppenheim. He was of the Methodist faith and was a former member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department.
Frank enjoyed camping, fishing, and storytelling with his family and friends. His most precious time was spent with his wife, raising their three children. He greatly enjoyed being a loving, active grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Louise; three loving children, Charlie Sammons and his wife Susie, Linda Peets and her husband Joey, and Fred Sammons all residing in Oppenheim, New York; six cherished grandchildren, Lisa Hulten and her husband Ray, Lorri Wilbur and her husband Dave, Renee Peets and her fiancée Jimmy Doxtader, Matthew Peets and friend Amanda, Ryan Sammons and Johnathan Sammons; three precious great-grandchildren, Nicole Hulten, Brandon Hulten, and Madeline Wilbur; two sisters, Marguerite Sammons and Muriel DeLucco of South Carolina; a brother, David Sammons and his wife Lois of St. Johnsville, New York; a sister and brother in law Lucille and Otis Snell of Florida, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Frank’s niece Joanne and friend Dave for all their support and care giving.
He was predeceased by his siblings; Simeon and Williams Sammons, Beverly LaBorgne and Ethel Elwood.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours on April 24, 2012 at 5 p.m. also at the funeral home.
