Biography

Mary H. Lyle, 66, of Dolgeville and more recently a resident of Loretto Utica Center, Utica, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford, NY.

Mary was born on September 29, 1943 in Little Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Alexander and Mildred (Smith) Weir. Mary moved as a young girl to Syracuse, NY, where she graduated from Central New York Tech, now known as Syracuse High School with the Class of 1960.

Mary returned to the Mohawk Valley upon her marriage to Frank Lyle in May of 1963 at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. She later returned to Dolgeville with her children in 1975.

She was employed in several local factories and later in life became a home-healthcare aide in Dolgeville, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She became a resident of the Loretto Utica Center, where she thrived. Mary was known as a social butterfly, joining all the Center’s clubs, working in the gift shop, making the rounds, and cheering up anyone that was down.

She was a beloved mother, special grandmother and a great friend to all who knew her.

Mary will be sadly missed by her children for whom she is survived by; Brenda Eggleston and her husband, Scott of Dolgeville, NY, Michael Lyle and his wife, Linda of Dolgeville, Judith Flihan and her husband, Michael of Yorkville, NY, and William Lyle and his wife, Kelly of Dolgeville, NY; her special grandchildren, Michelle Hansen and her husband, Donald, Jason Eggleston and Courtney Maida, Cassandra, Mackenzie and Gillian Flihan, Micheal Lyle, and Donald Hansen III; a brother, Allan Weir and a sister-in-law, Eileen Weir of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews in the Syracuse area, and a special niece, Susan Guy of Stratford, NY.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be held for Mary at 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York with Pastor James McMillian, officiating. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) for a calling hour prior to her memorial service.

In lieu of floral offerings, the family has asked that memorial contributions for Mary be made to the Loretto Utica Center, 1445 Kemble Ave., Utica, NY 13501, Attention: Stephanie Benner.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Loretto Utica Center for their compassion and care that was extended to Mary throughout her stay with them and the nurses on 1 East at Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital, who made this difficult time easier with their special care and comfort. Lastly, Mary’s children would like to thank their spouses: To Scott, Linda, Mike, and Kelly- for humoring us, supporting us, and most of all for loving us. We would not have made it through this ordeal without you, thank you.
